ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a porch fire at 1726 10th Ave on Saturday at around 3:00 p.m. and quickly put it out in five minutes before staying an extra hour for checks—causing about $15,000 in damage and leading one resident to urgent care for smoke inhalation.  KLEW

CRIME NEWS

  • The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations that a dog from Culdesac was injured and abandoned in the Waha area—despite social media posts accusing local resident Umpenhour, there is no evidence linking him—and authorities are examining calls, texts, and online threats to enforce Idaho laws.  KLEW
  • A 32-year-old woman was arrested on March 14th after a domestic dispute at a Fair Street residence in Clarkston when officers responded at 2:59 p.m.—she was booked for fourth-degree assault for domestic violence and an additional charge of third-degree assault after reportedly kicking a jail deputy during transport.  Dailyfly

  • Kim Barnes, a local author from Idaho, will speak at the 43rd annual Stegner Lecture on April 4 at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Lewiston City Library at 411 D Street—her talk will explore the connection between the wilderness and grief.  Dailyfly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sacajawea Middle School announced that Corey Williams will serve as its new principal on July 1—he has been the assistant principal for two years and worked 14 years at Lewiston High School. Current principal Tim Sperber will become the district superintendent.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program, which funded over $33 million for energy upgrades on Idaho farms including $20 million from the Inflation Reduction Act, has been frozen, leaving farmers to cover project costs upfront. USDA staff layoffs further limit support for nearly 250 projects since 2014 — prompting fears that halted funding may jeopardize farm livelihoods.  Dailyfly
