COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In nearby Asotin, a restored 'Welcome to Friendly Asotin' sign was unveiled earlier this month by volunteers led by Tom Tower & David Pfnister, inspiring local pride. An additional sign honoring Asotin High School Panthers will be installed soon.  KLEW
  • The Lewiston Nez Perce County Airport announced a new food donation drive for TSA agents to offer community support amid the ongoing partial government shutdown. Donations of canned goods, boxed meals, and snacks can be dropped off inside the main terminal during normal hours.  KLEW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A University of Idaho report showed that agriculture generated a record $44.5 billion in annual sales in 2024, making up 17.2% of the state's economy and supporting about 137,900 jobs in Idaho + spurring growth in food processing and related supply chains.  Dailyfly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Education has named Alica Holthaus as deputy superintendent for northern regions. She will support local school districts with decades of experience from roles in Mountain View and St. Maries, and she recently led the Mountain View School District as interim superintendent in Grangeville.  Dailyfly
  • Lewis-Clark State College is serving more students than in years as spring enrollment shows a continued multiyear growth trend; local officials say rising numbers reflect strong interest in the college's diverse programs.  KLEW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that several recreation areas at Dworshak Dam have been closed due to flooding and mudslides for safety. Other sites remain open & Dent Campground is scheduled to reopen on Apr. 12 with reservations required.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game closed the McGill Spur Access Site along the Clearwater River on March 18 after rains caused flooding and landslides that altered the creek and deposited debris. The site will remain closed until repairs finish, so anglers use alternate access ahead of the April 25 Chinook opener.  Dailyfly
  • An emergency disaster declaration is in effect for Clearwater County today. Orofino officials are assessing flood damage and advising residents to document property losses and keep receipts while staying alert for mudslides & falling trees as they await further funding guidance.  KHQ
  • On Wednesday, Idaho House lawmakers approved a bill to form a legislative oversight committee for nearly $200M in federal rural health funds, a step to ensure the executive does not control spending; the measure now moves to the Senate with funds needing to be awarded by Oct. 30 or returned.  Big Country News
  • The Idaho Transportation Department set brackets for its Battle of the Plates event and will open voting on Monday, Mar. 23 — giving residents a choice of 16 license plates. Updates are posted on the ITD Facebook page.  KHQ
