COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lewiston-Clarkston YWCA is asking for individually packaged snacks, juice boxes and items for babies and toddlers to support its children's program—serving children from infancy to 17—and accepts donations at its office on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during business hours.  KLEW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Idaho gas prices increased by nine cents this week and the average for regular gas is now $3.33 per gallon — the rise comes as refineries switch to the costlier summer-blend fuel — while prices are still lower than this time last year. In Lewiston, regular gas is priced at $3.23 per gallon and crude oil prices have also risen, and further pump price increases are expected.  Dailyfly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Idaho announced Leslie Edgar as the new J.R. Simplot Endowed Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and she will begin on June 23, succeeding Michael P. Parrella (who retires on June 21) after serving as an associate dean at Washington State University.  Big Country News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport reduced its Air Traffic Control Tower hours due to staffing shortages; starting Monday, March 31, the tower was closed on Tuesdays and operated with either regular hours (6 am to 10 pm) or limited hours (7 am to 4:30 pm PDT) until further notice.  Dailyfly
  • Idaho Fish and Game said that controlled hunt applications for moose, bighorn sheep, and mountain goat open today and run through April 30. Applicants must have a 2025 Idaho hunting or combination license and pay nonrefundable fees along with a tag fee—drawing results will be posted online in early June.  Big Country News

HEALTH NEWS

  • FSIS has issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat white chicken chili sold at Costco stores—imported from Canada—that did not receive FSIS import reinspection and may still be in pantries. There have been no reported illnesses, and consumers are advised to discard or return the product.  Big Country News

  • LC State split its Cascade Conference doubleheader against Oregon Tech last Sunday by winning the first game 7 to 6 and losing the second game 11 to 6—Charlie Updegrave tied the conference record with his 39th home run—and the team will host Warner Pacific next weekend.  Dailyfly
  • Alex Navarro earned his first CCC Men’s Golfer of the Week honor after winning The Warrior Spring Classic with a score 12 under par that helped his team win nearly 40 strokes—Charlie Updegrave tied the CCC career home run record by hitting his fifth home run of the week to be named Baseball Player of the Week. The men’s golf team will face Whitworth on Thursday while the baseball team will play at Whitman tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.  Dailyfly
