  • Mike Dawson, a Lewiston native and lifelong trivia fan, will appear on Jeopardy! this Friday at 7 p.m. after years of persistence and support from his community — he reached this dream following repeated quiz attempts and a recent job loss.  KLEW
  • Construction continues on Union Gospel Mission's new shelter at 419 Snake River Avenue in Lewiston that will sleep 92 people and be the region's first clean and sober facility later this year. UGM reached its $8.9 million funding goal with a State Bank Northwest grant and now is raising an additional $300,000 to buy essential furnishings and equipment—funds that will support local residents facing homelessness.  Dailyfly

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lewiston Police Department, in collaboration with the FBI, Clarkston, Moscow and Quad City task forces plus Homeland Security, arrested three individuals on April 1 after four indictments were issued on March 31 at three local businesses, seizing cash, bank accounts and property while the defendants face a $1,000,000 bond each ahead of a court appearance this week.  Big Country News
  • A 57-year-old man, Steven Kernutt, was arrested Monday evening in White Bird after an ATV stop revealed he had consumed alcohol and methamphetamine; he faces felony possession charges along with misdemeanors for DUI, driving without privileges, and other related offenses (including possession of paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant).  Dailyfly

  • Travelers in Lewiston are rushing to upgrade their IDs as the Real ID deadline approaches on May 7—local DMV offices are offering more appointments and extended hours to help residents meet the deadline.  KHQ
  • The City of Lewiston launched a new 24/7 IVR system today that lets residents pay their utility bills using a credit or debit card or bank account if they have a 10 digit account number. Residents can call 1+833+761+5606 to access the free service anytime.  KLEW
  • On April 1, the Idaho Head Start Regional Office closed by order of HHS Secretary Kennedy, which placed federal staff on administrative leave until June and left nearly 4,000 children and families without needed support. Local program leaders are worried about halted grant approvals and disrupted fiscal operations (no alternative contacts were provided) as they await further instructions.  KHQ

  • Lewis-Clark State College will host its Wellness & Health Screening Fair on April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the main entrance of the Student Union Building; the LC State Nursing & Health Sciences Division and the Physical, Life, Movement & Sport Sciences Division are organizing the event, which will move indoors if it rains.  Dailyfly
