- ➤ The Upriver Youth Leadership Council was honored with the Champion for Children Award 2025 for its work preventing child abuse at the Family Fun Fair at the Lewiston City Library on April 3. Established in 2007, the organization has supported youth in Kamiah with programs like a Teen Center and a youth-led skate park — and will continue to expand its efforts to strengthen families. - ➤ Kamiah High School graduates from the class of 2018 launched Leaders of the Valley, a nonprofit scholarship program that will award $2,000 each year to a senior from Kamiah or Clearwater Valley for community service over academic performance—applications are due by 5 p.m. on April 18 and the program may expand to Lewiston-area schools with further support. Brad Little signed a bill on Friday increasing the budget for the Office of the State Public Defender—a statewide agency set up in October to consolidate county offices and address funding shortfalls.
