  • Upriver Youth Leadership Council received the Champion for Children award — presented by the Palouse and LC Valley Coalition — during National Child Abuse Prevention Month for its efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect. The non-profit has provided free mental health services, food support, and parenting programs while launching initiatives like the Kamiah Teen Center and a youth-led skate park to help strengthen the community.  KLEW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lewis-Clark State College’s School of Career & Technical Education held its third annual NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Thursday and welcomed new and prospective students planning to enroll in one of its 21 CTE programs next fall—special guests included Tia Davis, Colt La’akea Almodova, Cynthia Pemberton, and Fred Chilson.  Dailyfly
  • The 4-H Palouse Area Robotics Team SciBorgs competed in the F.I.R.S.T. Pacific Northwest District Championship in Cheney from April 3rd to 5th—finishing 39th among 132 teams. They will offer community outreach events and workshops in Java Programming, Basic Electronics, and SolidWorks CAD Design this summer to promote STEM careers for youth.  Big Country News

  • The Lewiston Police Department will soon install Flock license plate recognition cameras to help solve and reduce crime. The cameras capture only license plate images — they send real-time alerts for stolen vehicles and amber or silver alerts and do not record driver images or enforce traffic laws.  Dailyfly
  • Granite Lake Park will be closed on April 17 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for the annual application of herbicides to its planting beds & visitors must follow posted signs during the closure.  Dailyfly
  • The Idaho Board of Library Commissioners will meet virtually today to review urgent funding issues including state funds, revenue, and plans to improve library services (public comment is invited) amid federal funding warnings from the American Library Association (local libraries such as Asotin County Library have already faced a $66,000 cut).  KLEW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Idaho homeowners with a 2024 income of $37,810 or less may reduce property taxes by $250 to $1,500 on their main residence and up to one acre if they meet eligibility criteria—being 65 or older, blind, widowed, disabled, a former POW or hostage, or a motherless or fatherless child under 18. Homeowners must submit applications by April 15 and benefits will appear on the December property tax bill.  KHQ
