On Thursday the Idaho Animal Rescue Network and Lewiston city workers rescued nine ducklings trapped in a pipe and tangled in thick brush after a call from the Idaho Housing office, reuniting some ducklings with their mother and sending others to Palouse Wildlife Rescue (for further care).
💼 Business
Rite Aid will soon close its three locations in Lewiston, Moscow, and Pullman after filing for bankruptcy for the second time in two years — prescription lists from its closed stores will transfer to Albertsons, Walgreens, and Fred Meyer.
🏛️ Government
The Idaho Transportation Department said construction will begin next week on a new concrete passing lane that stretches 1.1 miles on the north side of US 95 between Windy Loop Road and Lauer Crossing Road north of Cottonwood to ease traffic flow.
Drivers should slow down to 45 mph during work hours and 55 mph off hours as intermittent flagging may cause 15-minute delays until the work ends in August.
Congressman Mike Simpson supports the Public Lands in Public Hands Act — which would require congressional approval for large federal land sales — to keep Idahoans' access to hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation, and he expressed concern over a House amendment that would sell vast federal lands in Nevada and Utah. He warned the move could set a precedent that might limit public access to these cherished lands.

Kootenai Health and Kootenai Outpatient Imaging announced two new women’s imaging centers in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls that offer advanced 3D mammography, automated breast ultrasound, and DEXA bone density screening — centers open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. — designed with local input to provide supportive, expert care.

LC State Track and Field is competing in the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, which runs today and tomorrow in Ashland.
The meet is the final chance for athletes to hit national qualifying marks + some seniors will finish with a graduation ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m.
