- ➤ An 18-year-old man from Lewiston was arrested after his white Ford Excursion repeatedly hit a guardrail on Ninth Street on May 10 at about 2:30 p.m.—he failed field sobriety tests and his breath samples showed levels far above the legal limit, and he now faces charges of excessive DUI, open container, possession of paraphernalia and driving on a sidewalk. - ➤ Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador said Idaho’s Operation Unhinged led the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to arrest 12 suspects in April for internet crimes against children—two in Bonneville County and three in Kootenai County, doubling last April’s total, with further arrests pending as investigations continue and cases moving to federal or state court. - ➤ Principal Jennifer Gomez of Orchard Elementary in Lewiston has been named Idaho's 2025 National Distinguished Principal by the Idaho Association of School Administrators and the Idaho Association of Elementary School Principals—she led her school to significant academic and cultural growth and oversaw its designation as a Model Professional Learning Community. - ➤ On Tuesday, Lewiston election officials tested the voting equipment at the Nez Perce County Courthouse using pre-marked unofficial ballots and spreadsheets to confirm the tabulator’s accuracy ahead of the May 20 election. They reported a 3.1 percent in-person turnout and a 55 percent absentee return rate, with early voting open until May 16 — and only Lewiston residents are eligible to vote in the city bond election. - ➤ The City of Lewiston will launch a new online utility billing payment system on May 22 that offers residents and businesses options like automatic payments, custom draft dates, guest payments, and mobile access — customers will need a 10-digit account number and service address, and a toll-free Pay by Phone option is also available. The upgrade is planned without extra fees, allowing users an additional way to manage their bills. Dailyfly
