Hobby Lobby will open its new store at Lewiston Center on June 9 — nearly five years after JCPenney closed.
The arts-and-crafts retailer will fill a 50,000 square foot space and operate Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., while it remains closed on Sunday.
🚨 Crime
A Lewiston man—53-year-old Brian Harmon—was convicted by Asotin County Superior Court for first-degree child rape and witness intimidation from crimes committed in 2017 and 2018, and he awaits sentencing.
🎓 Education
Lewis-Clark State College’s hospitality management program was named the IDCTE Exemplary Postsecondary Program and received an award ($2,000) for quality instruction and strong industry ties; Associate Professor Rodney Farrington and Assistant Professor Magen Fairley will accept the award at the IDCTE Connect Conference this summer. The program offers both a certificate and an associate degree to prepare students for the hospitality industry.
🏛️ Government
Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador joined 27 other states in asking Meta to explain if its AI on Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp is exposing minors to risky content.
Meta will have to respond by June 10 to address whether it removed child safety safeguards, if explicit interactions still occur, and what plans it has to restrict this feature.
The City of Lewiston began work on 17th Street today to fix leaking sewer lines near the 19th Avenue intersection — plans call for repairs to extend east.
Traffic control will be removed by tomorrow — the project is funded by local ratepayer dollars.
