COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Lewiston, the Alice Whitman Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 13 at 5:00 p.m. at the Lewiston Elks Lodge Number 896 to retire worn flags and present Quilts of Valor to local service members and veterans; after the ceremony, the retired flags will be taken to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for proper disposal (burning scheduled later).  Dailyfly
  • The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley will offer free meals to all children ages 1-18 through the USDA Summer Food Service Program from June 16 to August 15, except on June 19+ July 4, at three locations in Clarkston and Lewiston; membership is not required.  Dailyfly

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, sparks from a truck pulling a trailer started a grass fire along Down River Road near Redwolf Bridge in Clarkston—deputies quickly stopped the vehicle—and officials warned that even a little spark can cause a big blaze.  KLEW

CRIME NEWS

  • Kathryn K. Cantrell, a 37-year-old from Clarkston, was arrested for felony eluding and DUI after a police chase on Friday, June 6 that began at 8:30 p.m. when officers saw her driving 88 mph on Bryden Avenue—her white GMC SUV struck a red 2004 Ford Focus near Valley Medical Center before pulling into its parking lot.  Dailyfly

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Avista reached a settlement with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, Clearwater Paper Corporation, Idaho Forest Group, and Walmart Inc that could change local electric and natural gas rates if approved. The plan calls for a 6.3% rise in electric base revenues starting September 1—with an additional 4.5% increase on September 1, 2026—and a 9.2% rise in natural gas revenues starting September 1.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lewiston High School honored three retirees for decades of service; Tom Leachman served for 36 years, Debbie Wassmuth for 21 years and Darlene McCann for 19 years, with the district praising their lasting impact on students, families and the community.  KLEW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Several Nez Perce County departments are moving to the new courthouse this June with District Court relocating on June 9 and 10 and reopening on June 12, while the Treasurer’s Office will relocate on June 10 and 11. The Assessor’s Office, Auditor/Recorder’s Office and Auto License Office have scheduled closures and reopening dates—county officials said they appreciate the public’s patience during this transition.  Dailyfly
