Fire officials reported that the 151-acre Post Fire along Highway 12 in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests was 45% contained after crews built control lines and cooled the area—308 personnel worked to remove hazards as rain was expected on Thursday to slow the fire.

On Tuesday, the Idaho Land Board approved using deficiency warrants to let the state controller charge extra wildfire suppression costs to the general fund if expenses exceed the $40 million provided by the Legislature.

Officials noted that Gov. Brad Little requested $60 million and state leaders expect a very active fire season—this could further diminish projected year-end balances.
