EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lewis-Clark State College will host its fourth annual Consent of the Governed: Student Democracy Day on Monday, August 4 for students aged 12 and up, offering a full day of hands-on learning about local government from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program starts at the east side of the Student Union Building and includes meetings with Mayor Dan Johnson plus a Tribune tour—students must register by 5 p.m. on July 31 and bring a sack lunch.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the parking and restrooms near D Street and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center due to resource constraints—other local recreation areas have been closed as part of a broader effort to shift staff to higher priority projects.  Dailyfly
  • On July 1, individuals seeking public assistance from Community Action Partnership and agencies in neighboring Asotin County were required by House Bill 135 to verify lawful presence by providing a Social Security Number and a valid ID—acceptable forms include an Idaho driver’s license, U.S. passport, or military ID.  Dailyfly
  • Idaho’s EMS Bureau moved from the Department of Health and Welfare to the Idaho Military Division this month under House Bill 206 to address EMS shortages. Officials said the change will improve coordination among healthcare providers, emergency responders and public health professionals—supporting local 911 agencies with more grant funds.  Dailyfly

HEALTH NEWS

  • In 2024, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center released its annual community benefit report that detailed over $14 million in charitable care, a $3.7 million investment in new equipment upgrades, and the hiring of 690 staff — the report also showed over $6 million in tax contributions supporting local schools, food banks, and youth programs in the Lewis-Clark Valley.
