ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters from several districts responded on Tuesday to a large fire in Clarkston that destroyed a home, garage, vehicles and other structures, with flames spreading from Elm Street to Chestnut Street through dry grass — crews fought the fire for five hours as another blaze broke out at Clarkston Heights while investigators work to determine the cause. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho State Police report for 2024 showed a statewide 6.6% decline in overall criminal offenses while hate crimes increased 21.43% to 68 reported incidents—Ada County dropped 4.72% and Canyon County dropped 6.36% from 2023. Big Country News
- ➤ A motorcyclist was arrested Tuesday in Lewiston after a high-speed chase began when an Idaho State Police officer saw the bike not signaling a turn—speeds topped 120 mph until mechanical issues forced the crash into the officer's vehicle and the driver, Kyle Mercer, was charged with eluding, aggravated assault, DUI and possession of drugs and paraphernalia. - ➤ Idaho State Police clarified today that a new passing law taking effect July 1 allows drivers on two-lane highways to exceed the speed limit when a clearly marked passing lane is available and the vehicle ahead is slower—rules do not apply on roads under 55 mph, when towing, when passing on the right, or on interstates. - ➤ Washington State DNR and Blue Fern Management canceled the land swap of state property in Spokane's Latah Valley because community concerns emerged. A heat advisory remains in effect today from noon until 8 p.m. on Monday—high temperatures of 95 to 105 with warm overnight lows are expected in Lewiston and nearby areas. KHQ
- ➤ The Idaho Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of Attorney General Raúl Labrador, affirming his authority to investigate alleged misuse of taxpayer funds for charitable grants—this decision reverses an earlier ruling that blocked his request for information from 19 grant recipients and remands part of one investigative demand to the district court for review.
