The YWCA of Lewiston-Clarkston is preparing for its annual School Supply Distribution Day and calls on the local community to donate school supplies as it gets ready to serve 600 to 800 children on Friday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Donations (pencils, notebook paper, crayons, glue, markers, and backpacks) should be dropped off at the YWCA office (300 Main Street) by August 4 to allow the team enough time to prepare the backpacks.
🎓 Education
Statewide, more than 70% of K–3 students read at grade level for the first time in five years based on Idaho Reading Indicator data from July 22nd—some districts and charters outperformed state averages, with Lewiston reporting 81.6% from 1,220 test takers.
🏛️ Government
Nez Perce County Road and Bridge Department was honored with a Team Award in the 2025 Idaho Build a Better Mousetrap competition for its Mitigation of Hazards project—an innovation that improves safety and efficiency in local transportation.
A LHTAC representative will present the award at the county commissioners’ public agenda session on Monday, August 4 and the project will advance to the national competition.
🏈 Sports
Lewis-Clark State Volleyball earned its fifth consecutive AVCA team academic award after setting a record team GPA of 3.74 this spring—five players earned a 4.0, showing the Warriors' strong commitment in both class and on the court.
