🚧 Accidents
Fire crews mopped up the Clarke Fire near Peoples Park in Latah Valley today — the blaze spread across 3 acres and caused no injuries or building damage.
🌲 Environment
On July 25, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released cold water from Dworshak Dam to help lower warm river levels near Lewiston and protect migrating salmon and steelhead (water stayed at about 66.1°F).
Wildfire smoke is affecting air quality in north-central Idaho today with levels reaching unhealthy for sensitive groups in Clearwater, Latah, Lewis and Nez Perce counties.
The DEQ and Nez Perce Tribe will maintain advisories through 10 a.m. Friday, July 31 (residents with respiratory or heart conditions should limit outdoor activity).
Idaho officials say the wolf population dropped to an estimated 1,129 in 2025 from 1,235 in 2024 as they expand hunting and trapping seasons.
They plan to reduce the number further to around 500 in coming years—meant to lower livestock conflicts and ensure a more accurate count.
