ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A wind-driven vegetation fire burned 50 acres on Lewiston Hill late Thursday night and was fully contained by early Friday morning—crews conducted mop-up operations while no injuries or structure damage were reported. Dailyfly
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Idaho Governor Brad Little announced a one-time bonus of up to $5,000 for wildland firefighters and support staff today+ the bonus is part of the Keeping Promises initiative to help retain and recruit fire personnel during a dangerous wildfire season. KHQ
- ➤ Road crews are working along Highway 95 near Aht’Wy Plaza to install safety features and new signage to reduce collision risks. The project includes repaving nearly 100 feet of roadway with one lane closed in each direction and may delay traffic up to 30 minutes on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for about two weeks — drivers are advised to plan ahead. - ➤ The City of Lewiston has contracted Knife River Corporation—Mountain West to improve pedestrian paths on 12th Street from Airway to Warner and on part of Bryden Avenue between Thain and 12th by installing concrete sidewalks, curbs, ADA ramps, stormwater swales, and repairing pavement. Construction will begin Monday, August 11 and continue on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with potential delays due to weather or other issues. Dailyfly

- ➤ TriState Health in the Lewis-Clark Valley was named the 13th most beautiful hospital in the nation by Soliant Health, reflecting strong local support—its design highlights include private rooms with calming colors, natural views, and local artwork. - ➤ LC State Volleyball Little Spikers memberships, presented by Edward Jones and Dean Roy, are now on sale for the 2025 season and give kids in kindergarten through 5th grade a chance to attend four one-hour clinics and join a special match event on Oct. 18 — the clinics run on Sept. 6, Sept. 13, Sept. 27 and on Oct. 18 from 9 to 10 a.m. Memberships cost $75 per child and adults can buy a discounted season pass for $45 — registration is limited to the first 50 participants.
