🚨 Crime
Immigration agent arrests in Idaho increased 797% in early 2025 with 368 arrests and 416 detentions recorded from January 1 to June 26—figures that show a sharp rise in ICE activity including aggressive tactics like using force to remove individuals from vehicles—and have drawn concern from legal experts.
A jury in Nez Perce County found James Breshear and his daughter Rebecca Brashear-Mast liable in a wrongful death lawsuit after John Mast was fatally shot at a Rosauers parking lot in Lewiston—Breshear is serving 15 years for voluntary manslaughter while the family was awarded over $6 million.
🎓 Education
On August 4, the Innovia Foundation awarded over $436,089 in scholarships to students from Eastern Washington and North Idaho for the 2025-2026 academic year — the funds were distributed through more than 30 programs.
The awards ranged from a few hundred to several thousand dollars — supporting studies in fields such as education, business, and healthcare.
🏛️ Government
The City of Lewiston is inviting residents to review and comment on the draft Water System Facility Planning Study for the Palisades and Southport areas, with the comment period open from August 3 to August 18 at 12:00 p.m.—feedback may be submitted by mail, email or in person at designated locations including a meeting at the City Library. The City Council will consider adopting the study on August 25—residents’ input is set to shape future water improvements.
The City of Lewiston will begin work on the 12th Street Sidewalk Infill Project on August 11—aiming to improve pedestrian safety by installing 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks, concrete curbs and gutters, ADA-compliant ramps, stormwater swales, and pavement patching on a half-block stretch of Bryden Avenue.

Lewis-Clark State volleyball begins its 50th season on Aug.
15—its season opener will feature a game against MSU-Northern at 1 p.m. at the P1FCU Activity Center under coach Katie Palmer. Season passes are on sale now—the team will host several non-conference games before starting Cascade Conference play in September.
