The 5th annual lemonade stand will be held on Saturday at the Genesee community yard sale at 356 East Valley View—11-year-old Hailee Zollman will raise funds for melanoma research in honor of her 7-year-old friend Keasy Line—who was born with a rare congenital nevus and has been diagnosed with melanoma.
The DeAtley Family Foundation announced the 2025 Capital and Community Grants to local nonprofits—Capital winners were Animal Shelter with 150,000 dollars, Asotin Lions Club with 20,000 dollars, LC Amateur Hockey Association with 100,000 dollars, Opportunities Unlimited Inc. with 10,000 dollars and Reliance Ministries with 8,000 dollars; Community winners were Lewiston Civic Theatre and L.I.F.E Board with 10,000 dollars each, Family Promise with 15,000 dollars and Two River United Child Advocacy Center with 15,000 dollars. LC Ice Arena said it is now 25 percent toward its goal—600,000 dollars needed for a full-size ice rink.
🚨 Crime
Idaho State Police responded to a 911 call on Aug.
6 for a white 2020 GMC Sierra driving erratically near Lewiston where the driver waved a handgun and fired at vehicles near Lewiston Hill, and officers later arrested the 58-year-old suspect from Sequim on aggravated assault charges.
🏛️ Government
Idaho legislators formed a task force to study child custody laws after local families reported unfair court decisions — the group held meetings on July 7 and July 31 to review cases that involved parental consent issues in healthcare.
They will meet monthly through October — lawmakers may propose reforms in the next legislative session in January.
