🚨 Crime
Richard Burt appeared in court today for his arrest in connection with a suspicious fire at People's Park—he was detained when police responded to the incident—and a heat advisory warns Lewiston and nearby communities of high temperatures of 92—103 degrees from noon Monday to 8 p.m. PDT Tuesday.
A 58-year-old man from Sequim was arrested Wednesday after reportedly firing his gun from his vehicle near Lewiston Hill — police said he was linked to several shooting incidents in Whitman County — with a $500,000 bond set and no injuries reported.
🏛️ Government
Starting Monday, August 11, parts of 3rd Street in Downtown Lewiston will be closed for an urgent wastewater repair project expected to last up to two weeks.
The closure will reduce on-street parking for key services — drivers and visitors should follow detour signs and plan extra travel time.
🏈 Sports
A Lewiston 9-year-old gymnast named Atlee Poxleitner is competing for the nationwide Youth Athlete of the Year award that offers a $25,000 prize and a Sports Illustrated ad — she has won regional titles across six states and is in second place in her voting group.
Voting closes Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. PDT, and she credits her coaches, teammates, and parents for her success.
Nine-year-old Beckett and his sister Myla are volunteering as ball pickers at The Podium during the International Table Tennis event running until August 13.
They keep the game moving by retrieving balls for para-athletes and Beckett said his mom signed him up for a chance to earn $60+ while Myla hopes to earn more.
