ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 75-year-old Clarkston resident swerved to avoid a deer on State Route 195 near Rosalia at 2:46 a.m. today and crashed through a guardrail before his car rolled into an embankment—he was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.  KHQ
  • A semitruck driver named Eugene Long of Clarkston was injured after swerving to avoid a deer while transporting Lewiston Tribune newspapers south of Rosalia—he is expected to recover.  KLEW

CRIME NEWS

  • An 82-year-old Lewiston man, Carl Vulga-More, has been charged with third-degree arson after nearly seven fires were started in Nez Perce County — including incidents on August 6 on Eighth Avenue and another on August 9 near that location — and he faces three charges that carry up to 10 years each with his next court date set for August 22.  KLEW
  • Southway Bridge in Clarkston was closed for over an hour Tuesday afternoon after multiple calls reported a man hanging from the bridge at about 1 p.m.—emergency responders including Lewiston Police, the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, and a crisis worker from Quality Behavioral Health safely deescalated the situation with no injuries reported.  Dailyfly

  • According to the National Interagency Fire Center, human activity has ignited over 39,000 wildfires this year, burning more than 1.6 million acres and straining firefighting resources. More than 16,953 wildland firefighters are deployed and state advisories are active in several regions—guiding public efforts to prevent further fires.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 13th, Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport applied a seal coat to its runways, which caused an odor many residents compared to petroleum products and led to a surge in 911 calls. Police and fire personnel confirmed the odor comes from the coating + officials said the smell is not a cause for concern.  Dailyfly

  • Idaho firefighter Justin Shaw, injured on August 10th, 2024, is making steady progress and plans to return home this fall. His family is remodeling their three story home to add an ADA compliant addition—this update will allow him to move safely while he continues outpatient therapy in Boise.  Dailyfly
