An 80-foot grand fir from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests was chosen as the 2026 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
The tree from the Salmon River Ranger District will be harvested in late October+ decorated by Idaho residents and tour before its tree-lighting in early December.
U.S. Highway 12 near Greer reopened to one-lane alternating traffic with a pilot car as fire crews respond to ongoing wildfire activity.

Lewiston Firefighters Local 1773 announced that Emery Schumacher (11-year-old) will serve as the local ambassador for the Fill the Boot campaign set for Saturday, August 22 at 19th Ave and 21st Street.
