🎓 Education
University of Idaho researchers have received a $291,606 USDA grant to develop free online tools that help irrigators plan crop management under water shortages (a Spanish-language version is in development) before spring planting.
The beta dashboard will be available on the Extension website.
🌲 Environment
Air quality advisory for the Nez Perce Reservation was lifted Monday morning at 9 a.m. by the Nez Perce Tribe ERWM Air Quality Program, with air now rated as good.
Residents are advised to monitor local conditions as wildfire smoke could affect some areas.
Idaho Fish and Game issued a fish salvage order for Karolyn’s Pond near Elk City today until Sept.
30 as low stream flows and rising temperatures create poor conditions for trout. Anglers with valid licenses may harvest fish by any method excluding firearms, explosives, chemicals, and electric current.
🏥 Health
Idaho’s first reported West Nile virus meningitis case involved a Canyon County resident over 65 who was hospitalized and is recovering at home.
Health officials advise residents to use repellent and reduce standing water as infections appear across seven counties+those with weakened immune systems face higher risks.
📰 Real Estate
A report released Monday night shows nearly $460B in HUD spending since 2015 has done little to close the home affordability gap (with Idaho seeing prices rise 151% while incomes grew 68%).
The study warns most residents will need almost a decade of savings for a down payment.

LC State Volleyball will host the First Serve BBQ on Thursday, Aug.
