ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Nez Perce County Fire crews responded Monday evening at 6:50 p.m. to Summit Construction on Hatwai Road when a construction dumpster caught fire from spontaneous combustion of oily rags—two brush units, Nez Perce Tribe Fire, a water truck and two sheriff’s deputies assisted—and no injuries were reported. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police in Clarkston arrested Ladonna Rae Maben after she tried to use a stolen credit card at River Tree Inn on August 13 and later found stolen mail+keys+financial documents from at least 26 victims, charging her with identity theft, theft and possession of stolen property while holding her at Asotin County Jail. - ➤ Idaho gas prices have been erratic this week with the state average at $3.51 and Lewiston's price dropping to $3.36—other areas saw slight changes. AAA warned that rising summer travel might push prices higher in the coming days. Big Country News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lewis-Clark State College will host the grand reopening of its renovated Fitness Center on Aug. 21 at 4:30 p.m.—the event will let faculty, staff, students, and the public view 18 new cable machines, renewed upholstery on 28 pieces of equipment, LC State branding, and a custom welcome desk while games and prizes are planned for students, with free access for those using a WarriorOne Card and memberships offered for retired employees and alumni at $150. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews in Lewiston began demolishing the 135-year-old courthouse as part of a $54 million project to build a new courthouse next door. Protective barriers were installed to keep nearby structures safe & public access to the new building is limited on the west side of 12th Street for about two weeks. KLEW
- ➤ The historic Nez Perce County Courthouse, built in 1889, is being demolished in Lewiston after structural issues forced its closure in June—its operations moved to a new building next door and a fence has been set up to protect the public. KHQ
