🚧 Accidents
In Benewah County—a minor passenger died and the 60-year-old driver was critically injured in a vehicle fire—Idaho State Police are investigating the incident.
📰 Economy
AAA Idaho reported that gas prices dipped two cents this week to an average of $3.49 per gallon for regular fuel—prices are higher than last month but eight cents lower than last year.
AAA warned that increased demand from Labor Day travel may push prices up as crude oil reached about $65 per barrel.
🎓 Education
Amy Kronemann was named the Lewiston Independent School District's Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2025 to 2026 school year—recognizing her 20 years teaching first grade and third grade students, coaching sports, and mentoring colleagues.
🏛️ Government
Motorists on U.S. Highway 95 between Lewiston and Moscow will face about 20-minute delays beginning Wednesday due to concrete work at the Thorn Creek work zone — traffic will slow to 5 mph over the bridge.
Delays may be longer during rush hours and drivers are advised to plan alternate routes.
Idaho Health and Welfare Director Alex Adams has directed that by July 1, foster youth with survivor benefits will have their Social Security funds conserved for future needs rather than used to cover current care costs—this change will return the money to the youth once they exit foster care.

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center’s CEO Ed Freysinger was named on Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 list of Community Hospital Leaders—a third national honor—highlighting his work along with 206 others to improve care for local patients.
Freysinger credited his team and said the hospital is expanding care and recruiting new physicians — efforts that will boost healthcare access in the Lewis-Clark Valley.
