  • Today, Jackson’s Pay It Forward Foundation in Lewiston surpassed $2 million in gifts for over 300 local families—founders Staci and Scott Baldwin thanked the community for its support since the foundation began in 2006 to honor their son’s wish to pay it forward.  KLEW

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 27, 2025 a Lewiston officer stopped a silver Toyota 4-Runner leaving a gas station without coming to a full stop — 61-year-old Scott Snodderly, who admitted he lacked his license and had just gotten out of prison, was arrested after county patrol confirmed the vehicle had been signed stolen and his license was suspended.  Big Country News
  • A scammer is making calls using spoofed Idaho State Police numbers to trick parents into giving out personal details (a parent reported a call claiming their child was in distress while the child was safe at school) and Idaho State Police warn that these calls are fraudulent, advising people to verify by calling back using official numbers.  KHQ
  • Idaho State Police warned residents about a phone scam using spoofed dispatch numbers—one call from a fake medic featured crying sounds even though the child was safe—and advised people to verify calls with official numbers before sharing personal information.  Dailyfly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Nez Perce Tribe’s Air Quality Program announced Thursday morning that the advisory on the reservation remains in effect until Tuesday, September 2 at 10 a.m. due to wildfire smoke with air quality ranging from Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups—residents in vulnerable groups are advised to limit outdoor activity.  Dailyfly
  • Idaho Fish and Game announced that nearly 1,900 catchable-sized rainbow trout will be stocked in local reservoirs and ponds in the Clearwater Region this September+officials stated that stocking dates depend on weather, water conditions and staffing.  Dailyfly
  • The Sunset Fire, which began on August 13, has burned 3,230 acres on the western slope of Lake Pend Oreille near Athol and is 66% contained as crews secure firelines and mop up residual heat. Mandatory evacuations have been lifted while law enforcement maintains road restrictions and helicopters continue water drops and mapping, and residents are reminded that the forest remains closed to the public.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game announced that firewood permits for Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area are available today through October 31 to allow residents to harvest dead and dying timber within 100 feet of open roads. Permits cost $10 per cord with a maximum of five cords per household and may be purchased at the Lewiston office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Labor Day — buyers are reminded to follow safe cutting practices and stay on main roads.  Dailyfly
