  • The Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood Field Office closed the RV dump station and flush toilet building at Hammer Creek Recreation Site due to a septic system failure that began on August 20. The site remains open for recreation with vault toilets available—repairs will finish by late October.  Dailyfly

  • A 36-year-old man was arrested on August 28 for felony DUI after his vehicle left the roadway in the Winona area near Kooskia — deputies smelled alcohol following a citizen report.  Dailyfly
  • The United States Marshals Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force and Nez Perce Tribal Police arrested Eduardo Alejandro Martinez-Ramirez Friday morning in Lapwai—he was wanted in Umatilla County for three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and was booked into Nez Perce County Jail while awaiting extradition.  Dailyfly

HEALTH NEWS

  • A 2024 law now requires a parent’s consent for most health care for minors and has stopped over 1,500 young callers at the Idaho 988 crisis hotline from getting follow-up support. Hotline director Lee Flinn said staff must end calls when a parent isn’t on the line — many minors hang up feeling they cannot continue without parental help.  Dailyfly

  • Damaris Kibiwot led the No. 16 Warrior Women cross country team to a tie for fourth at the Clash of the Inland Northwest as she finished ninth in a time of 14:41.5—this race helped the team score 130 points using only five runners while teammates posted solid finishes.  Dailyfly
