- ➤ Federal officials say the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit will end October 1 as Lewiston consumers rush to finish their purchases before the deadline. A survey by Cox Automotive shows many buyers plan to purchase EVs even without the credit — a sign that sales may drop later. KHQ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The USDA Forest Service has announced it will invest over $8.7 million in wildfire defense grants for North Idaho and Montana communities; the Idaho Department of Lands will receive $7.5 million for the Shoshone I-90 Hazardous Fuels Project and Missoula County will get $1,268,548 for planning a wildfire-adapted community—efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk. - ➤ At Monday night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Dan Johnson issued a proclamation naming October 5 through 11 as Fire Prevention Week to alert residents about the growing risk of lithium-ion battery fires. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Veterans from the Clarkston area gathered this morning at VFW Post 1443 for a suicide prevention awareness training hosted by the local outreach center. Commander Chuck Whitman and peer specialist Holly Stinglein stressed that talking about mental health—like discussing physical health—can help prevent veteran suicides. KLEW
