EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Idaho students in sixth through twelfth grade classrooms can submit one name per room for the Idaho Transportation Department’s second annual Name a Snowplow contest that began October 1 and runs until October 31—ITD employees from six districts will vote to select twelve winning names—and winners will have the named plow and its driver visit for a winter safety presentation later this year. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A record 121 mayors from Idaho including Lewiston mayor Dan Johnson started the Mayor’s Walking Challenge today to boost community health by aiming for daily goals of 5,000 or 10,000 steps in October—using an app to log steps and earn grant money of $500 for 165,000 steps or $1,000 for 310,000 steps. This challenge is meant to encourage physical activity throughout the state. KHQ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LC State Volleyball jumped three spots to No. 14 in the NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll on Wednesday, reaching their highest ranking since 2012 and posting a 9-2 record this season—though they lost games to Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho. The Warriors will play road games against Bushnell on Friday and Corban on Saturday as they face tough Cascade Conference teams. Big Country News
