ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will resume the harvest of both clipped and unclipped adult fall Chinook salmon Saturday, Oct. 4 after a closure that began Sept. 19 due to warm river temperatures and low wild fish counts—managers say cooler conditions now support a higher harvest limit. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is asking voters to approve a $22.54 million bond on November 4 to fix aging water, wastewater and stormwater pipes — many built in 1910 and the 1930s — and repair streets and sidewalks; officials say the bond will use current funds with no planned tax rate increase.  Dailyfly
  • After Congress failed to pass a funding bill, the federal government partially shut down Wednesday, causing about 14,387 Idaho federal workers to face furloughs or work without pay—essential services like mail and Social Security checks continued while lawmakers and agencies braced for delays. Federal programs such as SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid were maintained for now as the shutdown spurred uncertainty about future operations.  Dailyfly
