Good morning, Lewiston. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 28th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boys and Girls Club of the Lewis-Clark Valley will host its 46th annual gala on November 1 at the Nez Perce County Pavilion — featuring an 80s prom night theme to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Doors open at 5 p.m. and live and silent auctions will raise funds for youth programs.  KLEW
  • Idaho Foodbank is urging residents to use its online Food Locator tool as federal SNAP benefits will be delayed starting November 1—which may increase the need for food support statewide. Users can search by ZIP code to quickly find food pantries, schools, and mobile food pantries and are advised to call ahead to confirm their hours.  Dailyfly

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gas prices in Idaho have fallen, with the average for regular gas at $3.40—about five cents lower than last week—and Lewiston stations selling for $3.24. The drop gives some relief for families preparing for trick-or-treating on Friday, though prices might rise if fuel supplies tighten.  Big Country News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, Idaho’s Women Infants and Children program is funded by tariff revenue through October and possibly November—state health officials say that if the shutdown extends, limited funds may run out for nearly 32,000 participants. Health agencies plan to use carryover funds to keep the program open while they closely monitor the situation.  Dailyfly
  • Nez Perce County will close R-330 Road—also known as Cottonwood Creek Road—at George Creek Crossing near George Grade from November 3 until December 16 to replace the culvert with a new open bottom structure that will aid fish passage. Travelers should plan extra travel time and use alternate routes during the work.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sophomore Giulia Belfontali earned the Cascade Conference McDonald’s Player of the Week on October 27—winning a playoff at The Warrior Fall Invitational—and helped LC State beat No. 20 Oregon Tech for the team title. This honor marked her first weekly award.  Dailyfly
