- ➤ North Idaho nonprofits are hosting the 15th annual Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge (a 22-day statewide campaign) to raise funds for transitional housing and essential services; donations made by Dec. 31 will help groups such as Sojourners' Alliance support vulnerable neighbors. - ➤ The Lewiston Fire Department responded on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 6:11 p.m. to a structure fire in the 900 block of Burrell Ave when a heat lamp in a shed (used to warm chickens) ignited heavy smoke; no injuries occurred and officials urged safe heating practices. Big Country News

- ➤ Shoshone County declared a state of emergency today due to dangerous flooding near the CDA and St. Joe Rivers. Local responders +including off-duty patrol, EMS, and Swift Water Rescue have evacuated homes and are urging residents to avoid closed roads for safety. KHQ
- ➤ The Asotin County Fire Marshal announced the fall controlled burning period is closed as of 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 and that the next permitted window will open on Apr. 1; residents are encouraged to use the Regional Landfill’s free yard-waste disposal program (an alternative to burning). - ➤ The Idaho Transportation Department and the Idaho State Police are offering a free winter driving class (10 a.m. to noon) at the District 2 Office in Lewiston. The two-hour workshop will cover defensive driving skills and vehicle preparation for icy conditions. KLEW
- ➤ Idaho sheriffs warned that Medicaid mental health service cuts to mobile crisis teams, set to begin Dec. 8, could strain local public safety by shifting costs to jails, EMS and taxpayers — urging state officials to act soon to support vulnerable patients. Big Country News
