A Clarkston man — 44-year-old Justin Starnes — was arrested Sunday on felony assault charges after allegedly attempting to strangle a woman, breaking her tooth and hitting her with his car while reportedly drinking; he is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

Rep. Jordan Redman revived his bill to check immigration status for help with items like vaccines and care as House Bill 135, which passed both chambers and was signed by Gov. Brad Little on April 3 — the law will take effect July 1.

Lawmakers introduced at least seven immigration bills this session amid worries that these laws could hurt children's health care and lower crime reporting by unauthorized immigrants.
